Pilling Lane had a recurring problem with the sewer collapsing. Different solutions had been used to repair the sewer but each repair resulted in it collapsing again. The sewer could not be relined because it had collapsed in several places therefore it had to be replaced. The existing sewer was 225mm diameter vc pipe,158m long and 2.7m below ground which was replaced with a 250mm ductile iron pipe.
