The project creates a range of new and refurbished learning facilities for Unity College Academy which enrols children from age 4 to 16 years. The senior and primary schools are separate but linked by an open plan dining hall.
Constructed on a live school environment, the programme creates three phases, allowing for phased demolition of several buildings to enable the school to remain operational throughout construction.
The key aim of this project was to create a new and inspiring learning environment and the project involved upgrading classrooms, enhancing the dining and kitchen facilities and creating bespoke resource areas. As well as adding essential study areas, the project has also extended the academy's offering with the addition of a dance studio, gym and an extension to the drama hall.
The science laboratories and hair and beauty teaching rooms have also been transformed from the refurbishment programme, whilst landscaping to all outdoor play areas has also enhanced the Academy's external appearance.
Chris Lickiss, Principal at Unity Academy, said: ""We are delighted with the outcome in all aspects of the project which strongly supports our drive to improve and significantly raise standards. This transformation of our learning environment will help us equip our young people with the attitudes, skills and knowledge that they will need to lead successful lives. The outcomes of the partnership between EWC and ourselves very much reiterates our school mission that "In Unity, we succeed".
