The development will create an additional form of entry school with 8 new classrooms, containing reception and circulation areas. Situated within the existing grounds, the new building forms a significant addition to school facilities, with the school remaining operational during construction.

This represents the first contract award from the North West Construction Hub (NWCH) which was awarded on an added value offer. Project staff are committed to adding value to the learning environment and full integration with the school. KPIs have been agreed with NWCH, measured and adhered to throughout the project.

Safety and logistics have been paramount for the duration of this project, maintaining a working educational environment which remains safe for pupils, staff, parents and visitors to the school.

Particular environmental consideration has been given to the preservation of existing trees within the grounds and maintaining a habitat for bats nesting in the area.

The building is constructed on traditional block work walls with secondary steelwork and steel roof supporting members with a mixture of elevation treatments of render, timber cladding and aluminum / timber fenestration. The internal building consists of precast ground and upper suspended floors, internal finishes to walls, floor and ceiling with full mechanical and electrical services.

The scheme forms part of a wider development plan for Blackburn's overall educational expansion programme and has received good support and encouragement from the local community.
