We are thrilled Blackburn Cathedral Quarter has been awarded Winner of Best Large Commercial Building at the LABC awards 2016 with Tower Wharf, Wirral Waters receiving Highly Commended in the same category.
Blackburn Cathedral Quarter comprises of a new six-storey BREEAM Excellent office block, 60-bed Premier Inn hotel, restaurant and car park arranged around a new piazza-style public square and transport interchange. This new series of buildings has incorporated a modern urban design to provide the highest quality of accommodation in the town centre.
Tower Wharf is a flagship office block in the Mersey Waters Enterprise Zone which saw the design and build of a 48,000 sq ft four-storey Grade A office building complete with large reception, lobby and top floor roof terrace.
Around 600 people attended the event at the Macron Stadium-based Bolton Whites Hotel in Bolton on the 15th April 2016.
The awards are all about the essence of good buildings, with finalists judged not on architectural beauty, but on the “excellence” shown from a construction and technical building control point of view. They celebrate the design and construction teams that, having tussled with technical issues and difficult sites, found innovative and creative solutions.
